ABOUT US

In 1972 the CBCI established the Commission for the Family. The family pastoral service has been developed in answer to needs that have been verified. The needs of adolescents to acquire the necessary knowledge and training to enable them to develop proper attitudes and acquire sound values in relation to marriage and family life has been met by Family Life Education programmes. Marriage Preparation programmes have been developed in answer to the need for immediate preparation for marriage, providing an opportunity for the couple to evaluate their understanding of each other as persons and the quality of their commitment to each other in their sacrament relationship. The development of responsible parenthood programmes have been constantly encouraged in view of the need to regulate births and space children. The family counseling training and service programme has been developed in response to the increasing stresses and strains on

family relationships and the grave shortage of trained family counselors. Marriage enrichment programmes have been encouraged in view of the need to strengthen conjugal and family life. The coordination of all these porgrammes into an integrated service to the family required the establishment of a basic organizational unit known as the family life centre.

Consequently the Family Life Centre was setup in the late seventy’s and the Diocesan Family Commission started its new phase of life in September 1991, with the appointment of full-time personnel to revive the Commission’s purpose and its activities.
